The MCT trend

What is MCT Oil?

You may recognize the name of this oil, or maybe you even put it into  your morning coffee. MCT oil is a product we carry at Infinity and recently it has been flying off the shelves. Here is why:

MCT oil or Medium Chain Triglyceride oil is derived from our beloved coconut oil; therefore, it is a fat. The reason it is called ‘medium’ is because the carbon chain on this type of fat is a medium size in comparison to other fat carbon chains. The size of this fat is what makes it more bioavailable to us. The smaller fat chain allows for the fat to be easily absorbed, medium chain fats do not need bile enzymes to be digested like other fats, making it a great source of good fats for those without a gall bladder. Furthermore, medium chain-fats are sent directly to the liver and have a thermo-genic effect and the ability to positively alter your metabolism. This means your body will use MCTs as fuel instead of storing them as fat.

MCTs also have a positive effect on our gut micro biome. They hold anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. Consuming MCTs daily can help prevent candida overgrowth, dis-biosis (over growth of bad gut bacterial) and many other digestive issues. Medium chain fats are also beneficial for cognitive function. A study in the journal, Neurobiology of Aging showed that after just one 40 ml dose of MCT, there was a significant improvement in brain function in adults with memory disorders. MCTs can also protect against Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

In summary:

Medium-chain fatty acids can help you to:
Maintain a healthy weight
Specifically reduce stored body fat
Have more energy
Think more clearly
Experience better digestion
Improve your mood
Fight bacterial infection and viruses
Prevent fat-soluble vitamin deficiencies
